The culinary showcase brought together over 80 talented women from across Quanzhou's districts and counties—each a passionate "Minnan Chefina"—to present their signature dishes in a dynamic celebration of southern Fujian's culinary traditions.
Amid the aroma of sizzling woks and simmering broths, the event highlighted Minnan cuisine infused with contemporary creativity. More than 100 dishes were showcased, ranging from beloved local snacks such as sweet potato pancakes, Quangang-style sticky rice cakes, and mugwort dumplings, to regional specialties like rice dumplings, Tuling-style pork trotters, oyster omelets, stir-fried mushrooms with pork, as well as a variety of desserts including herbal jelly, fruit cream puffs, and golden char siu pastries.
Dishes were judged by a professional panel based on presentation, aroma, taste, and originality. Awards included "Best Minnan Flavour," "Culinary Excellence," "Most Creative Dish," "Star Chefina," "Taste of Tradition," and "Kitchen Artisan." The event attracted widespread attention both onsite and online, drawing food lovers, livestream influencers, and members of the local community.
Participants represented a diverse group of women, including home cooks, traditional food artisans, professional chefs, and culinary entrepreneurs. Lin Lina, who runs a private kitchen in Quanzhou, impressed the judges with a cold dish of sliced sea snails with mustard greens. Zhang Da, the head of a local food company, offered a fusion of Fujian and Cantonese cuisine—steamed pork patties topped with rich crab roe. Guo Yuanqing from Quangang gave a creative twist to the traditional sticky rice cake by adding pumpkin, enhancing both sweetness and texture.
The Quanzhou Women's Federation emphasised the important role these "Minnan Chefinas" play as custodians of Fujian's culinary heritage. Looking ahead, women's federations across the region plan to expand the platform, integrate resources, and further promote the "Minnan Chefina" brand as a means of cultural storytelling, heritage preservation, and women's empowerment—contributing to Quanzhou's vibrant identity as a living node along the Maritime Silk Routes.
